Unfortunately as we make our way through life and work hard to surround ourselves with positive people, there are times when we encounter people that are angry, jealous, belligerent and just downright rude. They may be your neighbors, co-workers, customers – and can sometimes even be friends and family.
I tend to encounter these people quite often, especially when things seem to be going quite well in life. It’s almost like there’s always that person that’s waiting in the wings to knock you down when you’re feeling good. I used to have a really difficult time dealing with these kind of people and spent countless hours at my therapist’s office trying to figure out why they would do those things, or say those things, and what I did to deserve it.
After listening to the sage words of my therapist and reading countless books, articles and blogs on dealing with difficult types I learned a few things.
You can’t control how others behave.
This angry behavior has nothing to do with you, it’s about them.
Don’t get defensive and turn angry yourself in response to their behavior.
Have you encountered a “difficult” person and how did you deal with the situation?
