Girl Scout Cookies

dosidoWhile I don’t make a habit of stocking cookies in the house very often, not long after my tin of homemade oatmeal cookies from the holidays are gone am I facing a new temptation – the girl scout cookie!

Granted, I typically don’t buy girl scout cookies. That is, until an adorable girl and her dad came knocking at my door this weekend. I immediately thought – how cute! No one goes door to door anymore! As the dad explained that they were going “old school” this year, I pulled out my wallet and took an order from my husband shouting down the stairs about which cookies he wanted. I ended up with 3 boxes. Gulp.

So as I snuck a peanut butter sandwich cookie this afternoon (and then appropriately hit the trail to run off the calories I just ate) I decided to do a little research on the best choices from our cute little gals in green.

Turns out, they do have a reduced-fat option called Daisy Go Rounds (which I must have overlooked in my thin mint and peanut butter cloud of joy). But, even better, the website that houses all of the nutrition information in one convenient place is http://www.abcsmartcookies.com/cookies_nutrition.asp It also includes extra info about food allergies and a free downloadable personal goals sheet http://www.abcsmartcookies.com/pdfs/smartmoves_personalgoals.pdf

Even though cookies aren’t always synonymous with health, these tools make it a lot easier to enjoy without the guilt!
